Our custom-guided tours offer you exclusive, custom-guiding services and a flexible personalized itinerary to see, photograph and learn about:

1/ A wide variety of wild mammals and birds in their natural habitat

2/ Native culture

3/ Rural Canadian culture.

 

The tours are fully hosted and offer the guiding services of naturalist and wildlife photographer,  Dr Jim Irwin.


 

Wildlife  photography tours, Riding Mountain Black bearIf you are looking for an exclusive, unique, privately-guided, opportunity to photograph a host of wildlife species, macro subjects, spectacular wilderness scenery, pastoral landscapes, fabulous wildflowers, fall colours, pioneer log buildings and Native dancers in full regalia, we can guarantee you a rewarding experience.

 

Or, if you are not a keen photographer but are interested in seeing animals and learning about natural history, Native culture or history, we can take you on extensive wildlife safaris, guided nature hikes or on scenic historical tours and provide you with wildlife Wildlife  photography tours, Riding Mountain bull mooseviewing sessions at our bear watching and beaver-pond blinds.

 

Of course, you are always welcome to kayak or canoe on our private lake, visit with the Ranch pets or just relax and enjoy the solitude and the sounds of nature.

 

At the Ranch, you can enjoy scrumptious home-cooked meals, fresh home baking and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with beautiful natural surroundings.  Regardless of your interests, we customize your exclusive tour to your needs.  Whether you're an individual or a group (maximum 12), we are equipped to transport and outfit you.  

Options include:

Wildlife  photography tours, Riding Mountain wildlife safaris1/ the use of semi-permanent blinds on Riding Mountain Guest Ranch for viewing and photographing Black bears, beavers and a variety of other wildlife at close range,

2/ unlimited wildlife safaris in and around Riding Mountain National Park,

 

Wildlife photography tours, Riding Mountain safari3/ unlimited regional tours to see and photograph the pastoral landscapes, historic sites and buildings, elk and cattle ranches, Native reserves, Native Pow-wows, rodeos and quaint rural villages,

4/ custom blind set-ups for wildlife photography,

5/ comprehensive commentaries on natural history including the biomes and ecosystems of Riding Mountain and Manitoba,

Wildlife  photography tours, Riding Mountain pow-wow6/ comprehensive commentaries on the history of Natives and Europeans in western Canada,

7/ guided nature-interpretive walks,

8/ guided wildlife tours of Oak Hammock Marsh and/ or Delta Marsh (applicable only if our optional return Winnipeg/ranch transportation is requested).

 

Wildlife which clients might see and photograph include black bear, beaver, bison, moose, elk, whitetail deer, coyote, lynx, raccoon, porcupine, red squirrel, snow-shoe hare, badger, otter, mink and various ground squirrels plus a variety of birds such as Common Loon, Great Gray Owl, Bald Eagle, Osprey, White Pelican, Pileated Woodpecker and Wood Duck.

Price for minimum 4-day/ 3-night package:

Single: $1650.00  + GST*

Double or Twin: $990.00  per person + GST*

Additional Day(s):

Single: $550.00/ night + GST*

Double or Twin: $330.00/ night per person + GST*

 

Rates include:

  • Accommodation at Riding Mountain Guest Ranch

  • Full board: dinner on day 1 to breakfast on the last day.

  • Personalized hosting and guiding services

  • Full days (9 hours) of custom-guided activities which can include the itinerary options as described above.

  • All required land transportation

  • Use of ranch facilities: hiking trails, canoes, kayaks, hot tub, natural history library, home theater centre (with 46" 1080p HD satellite TV/monitor and computer with multi-card reader and DVD burner), dedicated guest computer ( with Internet, multi-card reader and DVD burner) and in-house WiFi.

Not included:

  • Photography equipment and film

  • Gratuities

  • Items of a personal nature

  • Alcoholic beverages, although wine is served with dinner

  • Transportation between Riding Mountain Guest Ranch and Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Pick-up and Drop-off Times: Between 11:00 & 12:00 noon

Level of Difficulty: Very easy

Group rates: Available on request for four or more people.

 

Winnipeg / Ranch Transportation**

Available on request at $170.00 per person + GST*, return trip. If there is only one passenger, there is a minimum charge of $170.00 per trip each way + GST* (i.e. a total of $340.00 + GST*).

 

* Goods and Services Tax: Canadians must pay 5% GST and non-Canadian must pay 2.5% GST. Please note that the 2.5% GST is the non-refundable portion of the tax and clients will not be able to apply for a refund of this tax on departure from Canada.

 

** The transfer to the Ranch includes one of the following at our discretion, depending on time constraints, the weather and the interests of our clients:

  1. A visit to the Delta Marsh and Delta Beach area on Lake Manitoba
  2. A tour of the Circle Lake Park at Portage La Prairie
  3. A wildlife safari through Riding Mountain National Park en route or
  4. Proceed directly to the ranch and have an additional evening session in the bear-viewing blind
